English Bay is one of the places I associate most strongly with Vancouver. This view from Sunset Beach looks southeast toward the Burrard Bridge, with the familiar beach logs in the foreground. It brings back memories of biking the seawall and watching fireworks from these shores as a teenager. The scene itself is deliberately less spectacular: a light rainy afternoon on March 20, 2016. There is no dramatic sunset, just soft West Coast rain and an umbrella close at hand. Growing up in Vancouver teaches you not to wait for perfect weather, and that ordinary gray light is as much a part of the city as its famous summer evenings.
