Manhattan Bridge from Washington and Water Street

The Manhattan Bridge view from Washington and Water Street in DUMBO is one of New York’s most photographed scenes, with the Empire State Building framed between the bridge’s steel supports. I visited on May 3, 2015, when the intersection had been closed for the Five Boro Bike Tour. The woman in the foreground is one of the riders. There was still construction visible around Brooklyn Bridge Park, which had not yet taken on the finished appearance it has today. After taking the reference photographs, we grabbed a Margherita pizza from Grimaldi’s and walked back to Manhattan across the Brooklyn Bridge. This painting and my 2015 Brooklyn Bridge work came from the same day.
