Bikes along the Stanley Park Seawall

Oil on canvas36 × 48 in / 91 × 122 cmPrivate Collection

Stanley Park sits beside Vancouver’s downtown core, with the seawall tracing its waterfront edge. The statue in the painting is of Harry Jerome, the Canadian track and field athlete who set seven world records and won an Olympic medal. Biking the seawall has always been one of my favourite summer activities. I visited a few days after the end of summer on an unusually warm October day, when cyclists were still taking advantage of the sun.
