The Flatiron Building has always fascinated me. One of New York’s earliest skyscrapers was also one of its strangest, with a triangular shape that made it instantly recognizable. I had been looking for the right scene for some time despite living nearby. This view is from March 12, 2016 at around 3pm, when we were in the area for a bite at the original Shake Shack in Madison Square Park. Pedestrians, a cyclist and the temporary scaffolding give the scene its rhythm. I liked that something as temporary as construction could become part of the visual memory of a place.
