Canada Soup Cans series
This set of nine soup cans grew out of my amusement at how completely the Campbell’s Soup can had become synonymous with fine art. So many artists had made their own version of Warhol’s image that creating another one felt both like a satire and, inevitably, like joining the tradition myself. The red-and-white can also struck me as oddly Canadian. Each can represents a Canadian city I had spent time in, paired with a tagline drawn from a personal association or a cultural moment. The series is arranged from west to east and was originally presented in light wood frames, echoing the presentation of Warhol’s soup-can works.
